Former wrestler Hulk Hogan is coming out of retirement.

Hogan, 56, will be joining TNA Wrestling, which is behind Spike TV’s series TNA Impact.

Hogan said: “I’m thrilled to be jumping back into the world of professional wrestling. My fans have been asking me to return to the business for many years on a full-time basis, but the timing or the opportunity has never been right until now.

“TNA Wrestling is a great company with an already excellent fan base and business. I firmly believe now is the time for TNA to jump to the next level in their development and I’m here to help make that a reality.”

The star’s specific role will be “announced in the near future”.

Dixie Carter, the president of TNA Wrestling, said: “Hulk Hogan is one of the world’s top pop culture icons and the biggest superstar in the history of professional wrestling. We are truly excited to welcome him into the TNA family.”

The tough-guy reality TV star admitted that in 2007 he took the powerful prescription drug Xanax and picked up a gun, after wife Linda filed for divorce and son Nick went to jail on reckless-driving charges.

In an excerpt from his book My Life Outside The Ring, Hogan wrote: “There were times when I thought that a whole bottle of pills would go down easy. Then I noticed the gun in my hand… I kept my finger pressed right to that trigger… and if I moved that finger an inch in the right direction… I would have blown my brains out.”

Hogan revealed that he hit an all-time low after “going to a strip club, drinking, getting all that attention from girls” and coming back to an empty home.

But he mainly blames Linda, his wife of 23 years, who he claims is an alcoholic who was abusive to their children.

Hulk Hogan’s ex-wife has blasted the wrestler for his “infidelities” when they were married.

Linda Hogan – whose divorce sparked a bitter battle over their $30m fortune – said: “There were infidelities. It scared me because I thought, ‘Oh my God, is that my fault?’ You just start doubting yourself and that was really sad.”

Linda, 49, wed 56-year-old Hulk – real name Terry Bollea – in 1983. They have a son, Nick, and a daughter, Brooke.

She is now dating Charlie Hill – who is almost 30 years her junior and went to school with Brooke. She told US TV: “He’s a great friend and a good soul and a great support system for me.”

Linda added that she was worried when she began dating Hill because Hulk’s temper was out of control: “It scared me because I thought everyone has their snapping point and I didn’t want him to snap. I knew that he was probably jealous or envious or upset with the whole situation, that he didn’t have control of me. He didn’t know what I was doing, who I was seeing and it bothered him.”

Hulk Hogan’s son Nick is due back in a Florida court in March 2010, following a car crash that left a man severely injured.

Nick, now 18, was sentenced to eight months in prison in May last year after pleading no contest to a charge of reckless driving.

But now Judge W. Douglas Baird has said he will allow three weeks from his calendar in March 2010 if either party cannot come to a settlement before that date, according to TampaBay.com.

Nick is said to have crashed the Toyota Supra he was driving into a palm tree during a street race in Clearwater in August 2007.

Nick is the son of wrestling star Hulk Hogan and featured in the hit show Hogan Knows Best with his famous dad, mum Linda and sister Brooke.
