Patrick Stewart to be knighted
Star Trek actor Patrick Stewart will be knighted by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, according to sources at Buckingham Palace.
Stewart played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a number of Star Trek films, including Star Trek: Generations.
“It’s a fantastic accolade for a fantastic actor,” said an unidentified observer of the honour that marks a 50-year career achievement.
“He is a man at the very top of his trade who has mastered both popular TV and classic roles,” the observer said.
Stewart, 69, wanted to be a reporter but started acting in a small drama group. He was born in Mirfield, England. He had roles in Dune, Masterminds and the X-Men series, among others.
