Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto is reportedly to star in a romantic dramedy Whirligig.

Quinto, who played the role of Dr Spock in the sci-fi movie that was released earlier this year, would play the lead role in the Canadian indie movie, which is scheduled to start shooting early next year

Whirligig is about a man who befriends a woman’s adopted son in an attempt to get closer to her.

Chaz Thorne will direct the movie, which is based on a screenplay by Michael Amo, who created the Canadian supernatural series The Listener.

Quinto, 32, is best-known for his role as evil villain Sylar in the sci-fi series Heroes and it is claimed he is considering what his first post-Star Trek role will be.
