Troubled Mackenzie Phillips insists she has “no regrets” in publicly claiming to have had sex with her father.

The actress sparked headlines around the world when she claimed she had a consensual sexual relationship with dad John Phillips, the late frontman of The Mamas And The Papas.

It also sparked a huge backlash from the rest of her family who accused her of lying and of the drugs she was addicted to messing with her mind.

But Mackenzie insisted she was pleased to have spoken out – and also insisted it proved a major learning curve for her in accepting her father had in some ways abused her.

“I don’t have regrets,” she insisted, speaking on The Rachael Ray Show. “This has opened a door for a national dialogue about incest and sexual abuse.

“It’s the last taboo subject that no one is willing to speak about.

“And interestingly enough my fans and other incest survivors are coming forward and schooling me. They are saying, ‘Yo, you talking about this and calling it consensual – there’s no such thing as consensual incest’.”

But despite this realisation, she still insisted: “I have great compassion for John Phillips, my father. He was very damaged.

“I know that he loved me. I know that he never set out to hurt me.”
